Lost from the familiar place, looking for it in the other shore.
When I went to the campus book fair in elementary school, I was deeply attracted by the flip books among the many books, so I bought a thick dictionary and drew flip animations by myself. Unexpectedly, this painting would affect the critical moment of my future. When I applied for the university, I chose to study in a professional school of architecture that was barely related to art. After studying the basic courses in the freshman year, I found my goal and then devoted myself to video design. From video, video, and dynamic vision, I gradually entered the XR field. The film "The Other Shore LIMBOTOPIA in VR" has also won a number of domestic and foreign film awards.
Find a Destination and Shine
As an image designer, it is very important to present a wonderful visual feast that the audience loves. In order to produce a good stage play and conceive a design that fits the plot, Teacher Zheng Yuemei personally discussed with the production team and led us to refer to the works of stage designers at home and abroad. I always pay attention to the ability of excellent video creators to stimulate creative thinking.
The work "The Other Side LIMBOTOPIA in VR" uses the architectural design profession, uses virtual reality as the narrative medium, and explores the mysterious other side where the virtual and the real are intertwined and difficult to distinguish day and night through the perspective of the deceased. The English name Limbotopia of "The Other Side LIMBOTOPIA in VR" is the combination of Limbo and Topia. Limbo means that after death, the soul has not yet gone to heaven or hell. Topia is the utopia of landscapes and exotic lands. Through the combination of these two words, the creation of cities, architecture, life and death and self-relationships is presented with innovative thinking The concept symbolizes the flow of the soul and the space of dual opposites, triggering cross-border and cross-cultural philosophical resonance.
"The Other Side LIMBOTOPIA in VR" successfully won the 2021 Kaohsiung Film Festival VR International Competition, and was shortlisted for the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival in the United States. It also stood out at the 2022 Czech International Film Festival Anifilm and won the Best VR Work Award. The honor is a great affirmation for art creators, and I will continue to improve myself in video production.
For me, images represent a kind of virtual world and virtual space to some extent, and in fact, it is still a kind of space in architecture.
Inspired by studies at the School of Architecture, embark on a path to find art. While pursuing the essence of art, I gradually began to re-understand myself. Through cooperation with new media artists, after constantly understanding and perceiving the external environment based on "people", using media as a new language to re-transmit the thoughts and ideas of designers and artists. Design, art, technology, philosophy, just looking at these words, may be independent disciplines, but they are closely related and integrated into one for me. Find a medium that you can make good use of, and transform the ideas you want to convey into a new language.
